Individual Pachyderm Accounts
Individual accounts are available on a yearly subscription basis. These accounts include unlimited authoring. Your media and presentations may be stored on the Pachyderm server as long as your account is active. Completed presentations may also be downloaded from the Pachyderm server.

To sign up for an individual subscription account, please complete our Pachyderm Account request form, and be prepared with a credit card for payment via our secure server.
NMC Conversations
Posted April 25th, 2007 by Alan LevinePodcasting has been a technology and practice we've been tracking for a while, and thus it was time we launched our own series here. Our new site, NMC Conversations features the voices of NMC CEO Larry Johnson and Vice Presidents Rachel Smith and Alan Levine.

About every two weeks, Larry, Alan, and Rachel will record a new segment, each no more than 15-20 minutes, and highlighting NMC initiatives, projects, member activities, or other topics on new media. We will eventually invite our NMC members and collaborators into the mix. You can find the NMC Conversations at:

Results of Fall 2006 NMC Member Survey
Posted April 5th, 2007 by NMCThe nearly 250 members of the NMC provide a unique cross section institutions using technology to support teaching, learning, and creativity. Each year we collect information from our members about the current practices in our field of New Media for both a snapshot of current practices overall, and to provide benchmarks for our members.
The results of the survey are attached below.
In December 2006 we surveyed 237 NMC institutions to collect information on services provided, technologies used, and current projects. Attached you will find the results of this survey, including data on use of NMC benefits media services provided, exploration of new technologies, support for technologies (e.g. audio/video streaming, blogs, wikis, and iTunesU), use of open-source tools, and more.
NMC Announces Parcel Leases in Three New Educational Communities in Second Life

As of today, the New Media Consortium (NMC) is offering land parcels in Second Life that are part of three unique custom-designed educational communities. These parcels are available now for lease exclusively to bona fide faculty, educational departments, or learning-focused institutions.

NMC Announces Services for Virtual Worlds
Posted January 30th, 2007 by NMCToday, the New Media Consortium announces the launch of NMC Virtual Worlds (http://virtualworlds.nmc.org), a services unit under the NMC umbrella that will provide a full palette of support to educational institutions wishing to explore, build, or establish a presence in a range of virtual worlds.
The program offers all of its services to educational institutions and museums on a simple cost-recovery basis, resulting in deeply discounted pricing for qualified institutions. NMC members will receive an additional discount.
The mission of NMC Virtual Worlds will be to help learning-focused organizations to explore the potential of virtual spaces in a manner that builds on community knowledge, is cost-effective, and ensures high quality. NMC Virtual Worlds will provide a comprehensive set of premium development services for education and training, as well as conduct an ongoing series of events, conferences, and programs.
A suite of pro bono services and fellowships are a central aspect of the planning, and reflect the deep commitment to learning and access central to NMC's vision for the new unit.
