NMC Announces Call for Membership Applications
With an announcement to innovative leaders, faculty, and staff across the higher education community, the New Media Consortium (NMC) today announced a special Call for Membership Applications.
The NMC is an international 501(c)3 not-for-profit consortium of over 200 leading colleges, universities, museums, corporations, and other learning-focused organizations dedicated to the exploration and use of new media and new technologies. In 2006 a new cohort of member institutions will be admitted into the consortium as part of a worldwide search for excellence. The institutions selected, like the current NMC member institutions, will be outstanding innovators, committed to pushing the boundaries of teaching, learning and creative expression, and adept in the application of technology.
Complete information about the application process is available on the NMC website (http://www.nmc.org/search/), where you will also find the very easy-to-complete application form, a discussion of the selection criteria, as well as full details on the costs and benefits of NMC membership. A member benefits chart is available at http://www.nmc.org/pdf/member_benefits_chart.pdf.
Membership in the consortium is by invitation only, and invitations are the result of a peer-reviewed application process. NMC member institutions are found in almost every state in the US, across Canada, and in Europe, Asia, and Australia. Among the membership are an elite list of the most highly regarded colleges and universities in the world, as well as a growing list of innovative museums, research centers, foundations, and forward-thinking companies. A list of current NMC members can be found at http://www.nmc.org/membership.
Dr. Larry Johnson, CEO of the consortium, noted:
The NMC serves as a catalyst for the development of new applications of technology to support learning and creative expression, and sponsors programs and activities designed to stimulate innovation, encourage collaboration, and recognize excellence among its member institutions. Through its many projects, its comprehensive web site, and its series of international conferences, the NMC stimulates dialog and understanding through the exploration of promising ideas, technologies, and applications.
To learn more about the NMC and its work on behalf of higher education and its member institutions, see the descriptions of the NMC and its aims, projects, and initiatives at http://www.nmc.org/about.
The deadline for applications is Friday, October 6, 2006.
