NMC Web 2.0 Hits The Streets
As you are reading this, our new NMC site has been turned on as the primary web site for us at http://www.nmc.org and with that, NMC 2.0 is up and running! This has been a huge effort with a great deal of input starting back in June 2006 from NMC members, graphic design help from Tom Hapgood and Rachel Smith, programming and drupal expertise from The Longsight Group, support and data monitoring from the NMC staff, and a group of NMC Directors who provided some beta testing in March 2007.
The old site is now archive at http://archive.nmc.org and many of our historic URLs are all preserved and automatically redirected there, such as the 2007 Summer Conference site.
NMC web 2.0 represents a tectonic shift in how we can publish, aggregate, and re-aggregate content into new forms. We have taken on the directions of the Horizon report in supporting user-generated content, tagging, and some elements of social presence. The new site also more clearly reflects the NMC's Core and Focus Area Initiatives. We have a suite of resources and information that are "members only" benefits including a job board and a searchable member directory.
And we are not done yet! There are a number of new features waiting in the wings, after we listen and respond to feedback from this new release (and we are allowed to call this "beta" for a while). Over the summer we will be developing a brand new conference proposal and registration system.
