Screencast: How to Create an Account
Posted July 12th, 2007 by NMCWith so many features on the new NMC web site, this summer we are experimenting with some new screencasts designed to help our members learn to use the site.
In this first example, we show the steps that individuals from member organizations can do to create their own account on the site (in good web 2.0 spirit, it is self service!)
Get Flash to see this player.
If you click the little icon on the bottom just left of the volume control, you can view this screencast in full screen mode.
New Brochure & New Online Membership Form
Posted April 19th, 2007 by NMC
We are getting ready to sent out a brand new NMC brochure to be sent to prospective member organizations. It is also available on the new web site (Download Memberhip Brochure [124k PDF]) and members are welcome to use it to inform colleagues about us.
The brochure includes a new series of "verbs" to describe the NMC, also now part of the new "About NMC" page. NMC is
innovating...
collaborating...
influencing...
making an impact...
around campus and around the world...
In addition, we have created a new web form to make it easier for new groups to join the NMC.
NMC Web 2.0 Hits The Streets
Posted April 13th, 2007 by Alan LevineAs you are reading this, our new NMC site has been turned on as the primary web site for us at http://www.nmc.org and with that, NMC 2.0 is up and running! This has been a huge effort with a great deal of input starting back in June 2006 from NMC members, graphic design help from Tom Hapgood and Rachel Smith, programming and drupal expertise from The Longsight Group, support and data monitoring from the NMC staff, and a group of NMC Directors who provided some beta testing in March 2007.
The old site is now archive at http://archive.nmc.org and many of our historic URLs are all preserved and automatically redirected there, such as the 2007 Summer Conference site.
About The New Web Site
Posted April 12th, 2007 by NMC
Welcome to a new approach for the NMC web site! You may notice a drastic difference from the site that represented NMC from 2003-2007, as we embrace the web 2.0 concepts of user-generated content, folksonomy, and social presence. The site is being run in the open source content management system drupal and was developed over a period starting back in the summer of 2006 with member input. We appreciate the technical help of the Longsight Group in helping us with the development of the back end of the site and the complex series of templates and modules that make it work.
NMC 2.0: The Content Is You
Posted November 8th, 2006 by NMCAt the 2006 NMC Fall Regional Conference in San Antonio, Alan Levine (NMC) and Tom Hapgood (University of Arkansas) provided an overview of the types of features and functionality under consideration for the new web site for NMC. The theme was on very dynamic content, tagging, user generated content. Disciussion with the audience was meant to solicit ideas that would fow into the development process.
The slides from the presentation are available via Slideshare.net , a great way to distribute PowerPoint authored presentations in web friendly Flash format.
Other information from the presentation, include all referenced web sites, is available at:http://www.nmc.org/nmcpedia/Content_Is_You_Links
