How To Add YouTube Video to NMC Web Content

in

For content you create on the NMC web site, did you know that you can embed YouTube video? In this howto feature, I will describe the exact steps used to create the demo Poddy the Wombat entry. This will work for any content form that presents the visaul text editor, so for this example, I created Blog entry via the Create Content link on the lower left.

So I might first write a few words of text. To add a YouTube video, click the "Flash Video button":

Now here is the tricky part- to embed a YouTube video, you need a URL for a Flash file version of the video- note that this is different from the URL of the YouTube page. So open a new brower tab or window, and locate the video you wish to use, which look something like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K-Le1so5eH0

The URL you need to use is slightly different; What you need to do is replace the watch?v= with v/ or for this example, http://www.youtube.com/v/K-Le1so5eH0 which if you follow the link, will displaye a .swf version of the video. This is the URl you need to copy or write down for use in the NMC web site editor.

When you click the flash video editor, you now enter this new URL for the value fo Flash-File, and use for size parameters, width=425 and heigh=350:

Once inserted, you are done! Just click Preview to see if it works, and then Submit to publish.
